FAMILY THEME: JUSTICE

NO ESCAPING JUSTICE

2 Kings 9

God's judgment falls on the familyof Ahab.

1.  Justice Sometimes Requires Tough Action
     (2 Kings 9:1-13)
In order to bring about justice, God may have to take some
extreme measures. Case in point: the household of Ahab.

2.  Sin Leads to Conflict
     (2 Kings 9:14-22)
The sins of Jezebel, Joram, and Ahaziah ensured there
would be no peace. God could not sit idle after what they
     had done.

3.  God Will Bring Justice to Bear Where There is Sin
     (2 Kings 9:23-37)
Whether justice is carried out in this life or in eternity, we
can be sure that God will bring it to pass.

FAMILY THEME: OBEDIENCE

IT WON'T ALWAYS MAKE SENSE

2 Kings 5

Naaman is cured of leprosy in a most unusual manner.

1.  God Can Use the Lowly to Do What Kings Cannot
     (2 Kings 5:1-8)
The Hebrew girl had greater faith than a king and God
     used her simple message.

2.  God's Methods are Best, Even if They Seem Strange to Us
     (2 Kings 5:9-14)
God wants people to obey, even when it does not seem
     to make sense.

3.  We Should Not Desire Glory or Reward for Obedience
     (2 Kings 5:15-27)
Gehazi saw an opportunity to profit from what god had done,
     chased Naaman down, and lied.

POWER FOR ANY SITUATION

1.  God Empowers Us to Put Others First
     (2 Kings 2:1-7)
Elisha would soon replace Elijah, but as long as
Elijah was around, Elisha was his servant.

2.  God Has Power Over Nature and Death
     (2 Kings 2:8-22)
The power comes from God and not a prophet.

3.  God Has Power to Protect His People
     (2 Kings 2:23-25)
God protected Elisha from those who might seek
     to harm him.

SOMETIMES WISE: SOMETIMES FOOLISH

2 Chronicles 17:1 - 19:3

In a rare bright spot in this era of Israel's history, King
Jehoshaphat proves to be a wise and godly king.

FAMILY THEME: CORRUPTION

ROTTEN TO THE CORE

1 Kings 16:29-33; 21:1-26

The kings of Israel continue their drift away from God.

1.  Corrupt Influences Can Lead Us Away From God
     (1 Kings 16:29-33)
Ahab was already rebelling against God when he took
     a pagan wife.

2.  Corrupt Leaders Abuse Power and Oppress the Weak
     (1 Kings 21:1-16)
Jezebel used her influence to have an innocent man
     murdered.

3.  Corrupt Actions Cannot be Hidden from God
     (1 Kings 21:17-26)
It only appeared as though Jezebel and Ahab got away
     with their sin.

FAMILY THEME: THE PROMISE

JUST AS PROMISED

II Kings 16:1-5; Isaiah 7:1-14; Matthew 1:18-25

God promised and delivered a Savior.

1.  Human Wickedness Cannot Stop God's Promise
     (II Kings 16:1-5)
Man's wickedness does not hinder God's ability to
keep His promises and fulfill His purposes.

2.  Human Doubt Cannot Stop God's Promise
     (Isaiah 7:1-14)
Isaiah tells us more of Ahaz's story. Incredibly, as
enemy troops waited just outside of Jerusalem, God
gave this unbelieving king one of the most beloved
     prophecies of all.

3.  Jesus is the Promised Savior
     (Matthew 1:18-25)
Isaiah's prophecies were ultimately fulfilled in Christ.
