FAMILY THEME: LIFE IN THE SPIRIT

THE SPIRIT'S WORK

Romans 8
In Romans 8, Paul explained how the Holy Spirit enables
our santification (being set apart from sin and set apart
to God).

1. Life in the Spirit Frees Us From Sin's Condemnation
     (Romans 8:1-4)
Before salvation, we are slaves to our old sinful nature
and under condemnation. But, those who are in Christ
are no longer under God's judgment.

2.  Life in the Spirit Gives Us a New Mindset
     From Sin's Dominion
     (Romans 8:5-17)
Our mindset is our beliefs that shape our attitude and
outlook. Our mindset reveals our spiritual condition.

3.  Life in the Spirit Gives Us Assurance of Victory
     (Romans 8:18-27)
Hope can grow tired, but the Spirit strengthens us.

FAMILY THEME: FREEDOM

FREE TO LIVE FOR GOD

Romans 6
In chapter 6, Paul explained that believers have been
set freee from sin's control.
1. In Christ We Have Freedom From Bondage to Sin
     (Romans 6:1-11)
Christian baptism symbolizes the believer's death
to sin, and resurrection to new life in Christ.

2.  Our Lives Should Demonstrate Our Freedom
     From Sin's Dominion
     (Romans 6:12-14)
Rather than give ourselves to sin, we must present
     our bodies to Christ.

3.  Freedom From Sin Makes Us Slaves to
     Righteousness
     (Romans 6:15-23)
Believers are freed from sin to serve Christ.

FAMILY THEME: RECONCILIATION

RELATIONSHIP RESTORED

Romans 5
Having explained the principle of justification by faith
in chapter 4, Paul pointed out in Romans 5 that
faith is the pathway to peace with God as well.

1. Our Reconciliation Gives Us Cause for Rejoicing
     (Romans 5:1-5)
Justification allows believers to rejoice even in
     the midst of suffering.

2.  Our Reconciliation is Rooted in God's Powerful Love
     (Romans 5:6-11)
Jesus demonstrated His love for us on the cross.

3.  Our Reconciliation is Possible Because of Jesus' Gift
     (Romans 5:12-21)
Sin can only be forgiven through the death of Jesus.

FAMILY THEME: JUSTIFICATION

NO ROOM TO BOAST

Romans 4
Salvation by faith was always God's plan.

1.  Justification is an Act of God, Not a Work of Man
     (Romans 4:1-8)
Paul showed that this whole "salvation by faith"
concept had roots going back before David
     and Moses.

2.  Justification is Available to All People
     (Romans 4:9-17)
What set Abraham apart was his faith, believing
that God would come through on His promises.

3.  Justification Comes by Faith
     (Romans 4:18-25)
Abraham believed God even when his situation
     seemed hopeless.
