D6: week of 1/27

FAMILY THEME:  FAITHFULNESS

HOLD FAST
Joshua 23-24

As Joshua's life drew to a close, his final instructions to the people

were devoted to urging them to remain faithful to God.

1.  Faithfulness Is Taking Action (Joshua 23:1-16)
Israel's future faithfulness would be demonstrated through
     their actions.

2.  Trace God's Faithfulness In Your Story  (Joshua 24:1-13)
Speaking through Joshua, the Lord reminded Israel of His
     faithfulness in their history.

3.  Faithfulness Is a Lifelong Pursuit
  (Joshua 24:14-33)
The people would have to choose to be faithful to God every
     day of their lives.

FAMILY THEME:  MERCY

ROOM FOR MERCY
Joshua 20; Deuteronomy 19:1-13

Our merciful God wants His children to follow His example and

He demonstrated this with a very practical plan for cities of
refuge.

1.  God Planned for Mercy, So Should We (Deuteronomy 19:1-10)
God's plan protected the person who caused a death, but was
     innocent of murder.

2.  Israel Practiced Mercy, So Should We  (Joshua 20:1-9)
Joshua led Israel to follow God's plan to protect the innocent.

3.  God's Law Protected the Innocent and Punished the Guilty,
     So Should Ours  (Deuteronomy 19:11-13)
God's plan prevented people from taking advantage of the
     system.

Additional verses:  Hosea 6:6 ; Matt. 5:38-45 ; Matt. 9:13 ; Matt. 12:7 ; Rom. 12:20

FAMILY THEME:  JUDGMENT

THE LONGEST DAY
Joshua 10-11

The Canaanite nations discovered that simply choosing not

to believe in God or submit to Him does not free a person
from His judgment.

1.  No One is Exempt From God's Judgment  (Joshua 10:1-15)
Despite being tricked into an alliance, Joshua honored his
     commitment to the Gibeonites.

2.  No One Can Hide From God's Judgment  (Joshua 10:16-28)
God gave Israel victory just as He promised.

3.  No One Can Effectively Resist God's Judgment
     (Joshua 10:29 - 11:23)
One extended campaign brought the conquest to a close
     because God fought for Israel.

D6: Week of 1/6

FAMILY THEME:  SIN

THE RIPPLE EFFECT
Joshua 7

On the heels of the great victory at Jericho, Israel learned the

terrible consequences of sin.

1.  Personal Disobedience Angers God  (Joshua 7:1)
God was not going to overlook Achan's sin.

2.  Personal Disobedience Affects Others  (Joshua 7:2-9)
The sin of one man affected the entire nation.

3.  Personal Disobedience Can Lead to Public Judgment
     (Joshua 7:10-26)
Achan wanted Jericho's treasure but he had to suffer
     Jericho's fate instead.
