FAMILY THEME: CONTENTMENT

THE GREENER GRASS IS HERE

I Corinthians 7

Paul taught the Corinthians about being content.

1.  Contentment in Marriage Means Putting Your Spouse First
     (1 Corinthians 7:1-16)
Marriage requires a person to sell out completely to his
or her spouse, behind Christ alone.

2.  Contentment Can Be Found Wherever You Are
     (1 Corinthians 7:17-24)
Jesus can enable us to be content, whatever our circum-
     stances might be.

3.  Contentment is Found In Doing the Lord's Will
     (1 Corinthians 7:25-40)
Since life on earth is fleeting, we should find contentment
in the eternal things of God.

FAMILY THEME: CHRISTIAN CONDUCT

ORDER OUT OF COURT!

I Corinthians 6

Paul gave the Corinthians guidance on basic Christian
behavior.

1.  Christians Should Keep Their Disputes in the Family
     (1 Corinthians 6:1-8)
Rather than Christians suing Christians, they should
let the church be the arbitrator.

2.  Christians Should Manifest Genuine Transformation
     (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
A believer's life should demonstrate that who he was
before he was saved isn't who he became after his
     conversion.

3.  Christians Should Avoid Sexual Immorality at All Costs
     (1 Corinthians 6:12-20)
There is never an excuse for sexual immorality among
     believers.

FAMILY THEME: SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE

ONE BAD APPLE

I Corinthians 5

Paul called on the believers in Corinth to exercise church
discipline on members who were living in sin.

1.  We Discipline with Hope for Transformation
     (1 Corinthians 5:1-5)
The Corinthian believers tolerated an evil that should
     have filled them with shame.

2.  We Discipline to Protect the Church from Corruption
     (1 Corinthians 5:6-8)
Unrepentant sin can affect and infect an entire church.

3.  We Discipline Inside, not Outside, the Church
     (1 Corinthians 5:9-13)
Paul said not to eat with a man who claims Christ but
     does not repent of sin.

FAMILY THEME: SPIRITUAL MATURITY

GROW UP ALREADY!

I Corinthians 3

Spiritual immaturity among the Corinthian believers led to strife
in the church. Paul encouraged them to grow up so they could
move on to deeper, more important issues and doctrines.

1.  Spiritual Maturity is not Marked by Jealousy and Strife
     (1 Corinthians 3:1-4)
Spiritually immature Christians are very often the source of
     conflict in a church.

2.  Spiritual Maturity Means Giving God Credit for Success
     (1 Corinthians 3:5-17)
All people, no matter how godly, owe their success to God.

3.  Spiritual Maturity Means Boasting in God, not Man
     (1 Corinthians 3:18-23)
The wisdom of this world is in no way comparable to the
     wisdom of God.
