IT'S ALL ABOUT HIM

I Corinthians 1:10-31

The church in Corinth was suffering division on the basis

of human personalities. Paul reminded them that Jesus

is the focus of the church.

1.  Our Unity is in Christ, Not Human Personality

     (1 Corinthians 1:10-17)

     Human leaders must not become the focus of the church.

 
2.  Our Message is the Cross, Not Human Philosophy

     (1 Corinthians 1:18-25) 

     The gospel message must be the message of the church.

 
3.  Our Pride is in God's Calling, Not in Human Achievement

     (1 Corinthians 1:26-31)

     All we have, all we are, and all we become are from Jesus.

FAMILY THEME: ABIDING IN CHRIST

MORE THAN PLUGGED IN

John 15:1-17

In describing His relationship to His Father, Jesus said

He is "the true vine", His Father is the vinedresser, and 

His followers are the branches. He calls us to abide in

Him so that we will bear much fruit.

1.  God Expects His Children to Bear Fruit

     (John 15: 1-4)

     Those who abide in Christ will bear fruit.

 
2.  God is Glorified When His Children Bear Much Fruit

     (John 15:5-8) 

     Our fruit testifies that we are Jesus' disciples.

 
3.  Abiding in Christ Produces Obedience and Love

     (John 15:9-17)

     Abiding in Christ has a powerful impact on the believer's

     daily life.

FAMILY THEME: BELIEF

ONLY ONE WAY

John 14:1-27

After telling His disciples of His soon departure (13:33), Jesus

offered them comfort. Then, He said that He alone is the Way,

the Truth, and the Life - the only means by which we can get

to Heaven.

1.  We Believe Jesus Will Provide for Us a Place

     (John 14: 1-4)

     Jesus comforted the disciples' troubled hearts.

 
2.  We Believe Jesus Has Given Us an Entrance

     (John 14:5-14) 

     Jesus alone can connect us to the Father.

 
3.  We Believe Jesus Has Given Us a Helper

     (John 14:15-27)

     Jesus' presence would be felt through the Spirit in the future.

FAMILY THEME: SACRIFICE

THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE

John 10:1-18

Jesus is the Good Shepherd. If we are His sheep, we will

know His voice when He speaks to us.

1.  We Follow Jesus as Sheep to a Shepherd

     (John 10: 1-5)

     The illustration of shepherd and sheep expresses the

     relationship of a leader and followers.

 
2.  Our Shepherd Leads Us to Life Abundant

     (John 10:6-10) 

     The sheep are safe and secure in the shepherd's care.

 
3.  Our Good Shepherd Lays Down His Life for Us

     (John 10:11-18)

     The hireling flees from danger while the shepherd faces it.

FAMILY THEME: LIGHT OF THE WORLD

LIGHT UP THE DARKNESS

John 8:12-30

The chief priests and Pharisees were ramping up their

opposition to Jesus, but He wasn't backing away from

His claims. In fact, He intensified matters by claiming

to be "the Light of the World".

1.  We Must Follow the Light

     (John 8: 12-20)

     Jesus declared He is the Light of the World.

 
2.  We Must Believe the Light

     (John 8:21-24) 

     Jesus indicated that the time to receive Him is limited.

 
3.  We Must Obey the Light

     (John 8:25-30)

     Jesus' words are authoritative and should be obeyed.
