FAMILY THEME: A SONG FOR SUFFERING

Psalm 22:1-31

What do we do when we feel forsaken by God and despised by man?
Psalm 22 gives us some clues.

1.  Suffering is Part of Life in this World

     (Psalm 22:1-2 , 6-8 , 12-18)

The writer opened this psalm revealing his own personal
bout with suffering but recognized that suffering was not
     unique to him.

2.  The Nature and Reputation of God Provide Us Hope
     During Times of Suffering

     (Psalm 22:3-5 , 9-11 , 19-21)

Despite that fact that the psalmist's suffering was real,
and intense, he still found hope in God.

3.  In Every Circumstance, Praise God for Who He is and for
     What He Will Do

     (Psalm 22:22-31)

The psalmist redirected his focus from his suffering to
his Savior, from complaining to praise.

FAMILY THEME: HOUSEHOLD OF FAITH

Galatians 6:1-10

Believers help one another, and keep doing what is good and right.

1.  In the Household of Faith, We Strive to Restore Those
     Who Sin

     (Galatians 6:1)

As believers, we are called to hold one another accountable
and to help each other live like Christ.

2.  In the Household of Faith, We Help Those Who Carry
     Excessive Burdens

     (Galatians 6:2-5)

Paul encouraged the Galatians to help each other with the
     heavy burdens of life.

3.  In the Household of Faith, We Reap What We Sow

     (Galatians 6:6-10)

Paul encouraged the Galatians to continue doing good,
knowing that we will reap what we sow.

FAMILY THEME: HEIRS OF GOD

Galatians 4:1-31

We are heirs of Christ through faith in Him, not by our own merits.

1.  God Turns Spiritual Slaves into Children of God and
     Heirs of Christ

     (Galatians 4:1-7)

God adopts us into His family through the sacrifice
     of His only Son.

2.  Guard Against Returning to Slavery in Sin and Works-Based
     Righteousness

     (Galatians 4:8-20)

Paul loved the Galatians enough to warn them against
their tendency to return to the old covenant.

3.  Our Inheritance is Based on Faith in God's Promise and
     Nothing Else

     (Galatians 4:21-31)

Paul explained that believers are given an inheritance
     as God's children.

FAMILY THEME: JUSTIFIED BY FAITH

Galatians 3:1-29

Paul explained that justification has always been through faith,
even in the Old Testament.

1.  The Galatians' Own Experience Demonstrated That
Salvation is by Faith in Christ, Not by Works

     (Galatians 3:1-5)

We continue to trust Christ rather than works for right
     standing with God.

2.  Justification Has Always Been Through Faith

     (Galatians 3:6-20)

Even as far back as Abraham, justification came by
     way of faith.

3.  God's Laws and Commands Show Us That We Fall
     Short of His Standard

     (Galatians 3:21-28)

Paul explained that the Law was a tutor or
schoolmaster to lead us to Christ.

FAMILY THEME: THE TRUE GOSPEL

Galatians 1:1-12 ; 2:15-21

The apostle Paul warned the Galatian believers against
accepting any gospel other than salvation by grace
through faith.

1.  Salvation by Grace Through Faith in Christ is the One
     True Gospel

     (Galatians 1:1-10)

We cling to the true gospel of salvation by grace
through faith in Christ and reject any distortion
     of the truth.

2.  The True Gospel Came Via Direct Revelation from Jesus

     (Galatians 1:11-12)

We can have confidence that the gospel is true
     because its source is Christ.

3.  Salvation is by Grace Through Faith in Jesus, Not by Works

     (Galatians 2:15-21)

The gospel is based on what Christ did, not on anything
     we can do.
