FAMILY THEME: INTEGRITY

DOING THE RIGHT THING

1 TIMOTHY 5:1 -  6:2

When it comes to church leadership, integrity is a must. Paul
taught Timothy about living with integrity.

1.  We Demonstrate Integrity by Treating Others Well

     (1 Timothy 5:1-10)

Believers are to treat everyone with honor and respect.

2.  We Demonstrate Integrity Through Self-Control

     (1 Timothy 5:11-16)

Some younger widows in the church were falling into
     sensual desires and idleness.

3.  We Demonstrate Integrity by Treating Leaders with Honor

     (1 Timothy 5:17  -  6:2)

Those in authority over us should be honored and respected.

FAMILY THEME: EXAMPLE

SHOWING THE WAY

1 TIMOTHY 4:1-16

Leaders lead with more than mere words. Paul instructed
Timothy to set a godly example for others to follow.

1.  We Stand Firm in the Faith by Rejecting False Teaching

     (1 Timothy 4:1-5)

False teaching leads many people away from Jesus.

2.  We Can Disciple and Train Ourselves to be Godly Examples

     (1 Timothy 4:6-10)

Growth in godliness requires us to be disciplined. Paul even
     called it "labor" (verse 10).

3.  Believers of All Ages Can be Examples of Godly Living

     (1 Timothy 4:11-16)

Timothy was younger than Paul, but by no means a teenager.
Yet, Paul told him that age is no barrier to setting a godly example.

FAMILY THEME: GODLINESS

DOING THINGS GOD'S WAY

1 TIMOTHY 2:1-15

It is expected that children will bear a physical resemblance to
their parents. Believers should bear a spiritual resemblance to
their Father. We call it godliness.

1.  Praying for All People in All Ways Leads to Godly Living

     (1 Timothy 2:1-4)

Paul exhorted believers to employ various types of prayer
     while interceding for all people.

2.  Proclaiming the Reconciling Work of Christ Produces
     Godly People

     (1 Timothy 2:5-7)

Jesus is the only Mediator between God and man.

3.  Godliness Includes Maintaining Order in the Church

     (1 Timothy 2:8-15)

Paul called for men to pray and lead in the church and for
godliness among the women of the church in terms of
     character, outward appearance, and submission.

FAMILY THEME: TRUTH

TRUTH WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS

1 Timothy 1:1-20

First Timothy is a ltter from the apostle Paul to a younger pastor
and missionary partner. The two met first on Paul's second
missionary journey (Acts 16). This is the first of the Pastoral
Epistles. Paul began by instructing Timothy about the importance
of God's truth.

1.  Teaching God's Truth Produces Authentic Love

     (1 Timothy 1:1-7)

The goal of teaching the truth is love that comes from a pure
     heart and not controversy.

2.  God's Truth Convicts Man of Sin

     (1 Timothy 1:8-11)

God's truth reveals God's righteous standards.

3.  God's Truth is Based on Grace, Not Our Righteousness

     (1 Timothy 1:12-20)

The gospel is not about being good in our own strength but
rather responding to God's grace with a life of grateful
     obedience.
