FAMILY THEME: GOD REQUIRES HOLY LIVING

Exodus 20:1-21

In the Ten Commandments God gave us instructions on the way
to promote a good relationship with Him and with others. These
foundational principles are the basis for law and order, government,
families, and personal peace.

✞   God's Commands Show Us How to Love and Respect God

     (Exodus 20:1-11)

The first four commandments point us to the character of
God and help us worship Him appropriately.

✞   God's Commands Show Us How to Love and Respect People

     (Exodus 20:12-17)

The next six commandments (the second table of the Law)
give us basic principles for our relationships with others,
both in our actions and our attitudes.

✞   Reverence for God Helps Keep Us from Sin

     (Exodus 20:18-21)

God is concerned with our hearts, not merely with our
actions. Our motive for obedience is our deep love and
     respect for God.

FAMILY THEME: DEFEND THE FAITH

Acts 15:1-35

The church leaders at Jerusalem addressed false teaching and
affirmed the central truth of the gospel.

✞   Believers Defend Salvation by Faith in Christ Alone

     (Acts 15:1-5)

Paul and Barnabus argued against those who taught
that salvation must include works of the Law.

✞   God's Work and God's Word Affirm Salvation by Faith in Christ Alone

     (Acts 15:6-21)

The council confirmed salvation came by grace through
faith, not the works of the Law.

✞   We Seek Unity with All Who Trust in Christ Alone for Salvation

     (Acts 15:22-35)

The apostles sent a letter explaining their decision and
encouraging the Jewish and Gentile believers to live and
     worship in unity.

FAMILY THEME: SHARE THE GOOD NEWS

Acts 13:1-52

Paul and Barnabus took the truth of the gospel to the Gentiles
under the leadership of the Holy Spirit.

✞   God Sends His People to Share the Gospel

     (Acts 13:1-12)

Paul, Barnabus, and John Mark were commissioned by
the church to spread the gospel.

✞   Scripture is the Basis for Our Message

     (Acts 13:13-41)

The missionaries presented a clear message from God's
Word, not cultural preferences and customs.

✞   Some Will Accept the Gospel Message and Others Will Not

     (Acts 13:42-52)

Our job is to share the message, even if it meets
     opposition.

FAMILY THEME: THE GOSPEL IS FOR EVERYONE

Acts 10:1-48

The early church had to deal with the sin of racism. God clearly
directed believers to share the gospel with the Gentiles and
confirmed their reception of it.

✞   God Wants Us to View All People as He Does

     (Acts 10:1-33)

Prejudice is so deeply seated in the heart of man that it
takes the power of God to erase it. The Holy Spirit directed
Peter to go with the delegation from Cornelius to a Gentile
     household.

✞   God Will Save Anyone Who Responds to the Gospel in Faith

     (Acts 10:34-48)

The gospel is for every person regardless of nationality.
     God shows no partiality.

FAMILY THEME: THE GOSPEL IS POWERFUL

Acts 9:1-43

The gospel has the power to connect with and transform anyone.

✞   The Gospel Can Change the Direction of Our Lives

     (Acts 9:1-9)

Saul, on his way to persecute Christians, had his
life's course altered by the risen Christ.

✞   The Gospel Can Change Our Reputation and Relationships

     (Acts 9:10-31)

The power of the gospel can change a persecutor
     into a brother.

✞   God Brings Healing According to His Will

     (Acts 9:32-43)

God used Peter to meet the physical and spiritual
needs of many through the power of Jesus' name.

FAMILY THEME: THE CHURCH HAS A PURPOSE

Acts 2:1-47

As people from all over the world flocked to Jerusalem for Pentecost,
the Holy Spirit fell on God's people and the crowds understood the
gospel.

✞   The Holy Spirit Empowers the Church

     (Acts 2:1-13)

In a supernatural way, the Holy Spirit empowered the
believers in Jerusalem to share the gospel with thousands
     at Pentecost.

✞   The Church Proclaims the Gospel

     (Acts 2:14-41)

Peter preached a powerful sermon, and 3,000 people
     responded in repentance and baptism.

✞   The Church Lives Out the Gospel

     (Acts 2:42-47)

Through the teaching of the apostles, the fellowship and
brotherly love of the believers, and the blessings of the
Lord, the early church grew daily.

FAMILY THEME: GOD DEMONSTRATES HIS MIRACULOUS POWER

Exodus 14:1-31

God parted the sea to deliver the children of Israel from the armies
of Egypt and to bolster their faith in Him.

✞   God May Allow Us to Face Seemingly Impossible Situations

     (Exodus 14:1-12)

When they couldn't turn back because of the army behind
them and they couldn't go forward because of the sea ahead,
the children of Israel had to depend on God.

✞   God Has the Power to See Us Through Any Difficulty

     (Exodus 14:13-31)

Their shoes were not even muddy as they passed through
the path in the middle of the sea. God moved in miraculous
     ways on their behalf.
