FAMILY THEME: THE TRANSFORMED MIND

Romans 12:1-2 ; Philippians 2:3-8 ; 4:8-9

A transformed mind is developed through an intentional seeking
of God's thoughts. Our attitude and our focus must be on Christ,
His Word, and the virtuous things of life.

1.  Those Who Think Like Christ Submit to God's Design
     for Their Lives

     (Romans 12:1-2)

Our bodies and minds need to be surrendered to God
in order to discern His will. We must forsake our
     unproductive attitudes, opinions, and philosophies
in order to discover God's will.

2.  Those Who Think Like Christ Serve Others in
     Meaningful Ways

     (Philippians 2:3-8)

Jesus is the greatest example of how we are to serve
     others.

3.  Those Who Think Like Christ Saturate Their Minds
     With Honorable Thoughts and Actions

     (Philippians 4:8-9)

Paul gave the believers at Philippi a thinking grid
by which they could evaluate their thought lives.
Paul used himself as an example of how it was to
     be done.

FAMILY THEME: GUARD YOUR MIND

Colossians 1:13-23, 2:1-8 ; Proverbs 4:23 ; 2 Corinthians 10:4-6

We must learn to think in a way that is consistent with God's truth,
believing in its authority and relating it to others in a practical way.

1.  Defining a Biblical Worldview

     (Colossians 1:13-23)

We know many things about God because of the truth
shared with us in His Word.

2.  Developing a Biblical Worldview

     (Colossians 2:1-8)

Building a Biblical worldview is a process and is dependant
on true knowledge of Christ and His Word.

3.  Defending a Biblical Worldview

     (Proverbs 4:23 ; 2 Corinthians 10:4-6)

We have offensive and defensive strategies when it comes
     to defending our Biblical worldview.

FAMILY THEME: THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH

Genesis 1:26-27 ; Psalm 139:13-14 ; Romans 8:6-7

God created us in His image and gave us a mind that we can
use for Him and for His purpose.

1.  The Origin of the Mind

     (Genesis 1:26-27)

God made people in His own image.

2.  The Capacity of the Mind

     (Psalm 139:13-14)

Like David, we should be amazed when we think
of how God created us and the intricacy of His design.

3.  The Importance of the Mind

     (Romans 8:6-7)

Your mind directs the path of your heart.

FAMILY THEME: THE GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH

1 Timothy 6:3-21

Paul instructs Timothy on how to live out his faith in Jesus by
showing the difference Jesus makes in someone's life.

1.  God's People Focus on Godliness with Contentment
While False Teachers Focus on Selfish Gain

     (1 Timothy 6:3-10)

Christians ought to be satisfied if they have the
essentials of life, such as food and clothing.

2.  God's People Pursue What is Good and Right,
Having Nothing to do with Greed

     (1 Timothy 6:11-16)

God's people are to pursue the things and ways
     of God.

3.  God's People are Generous, Trusting in God
     Rather Than Riches

     (1 Timothy 6:17-21)

Christians who are rich by the world's standards
must be careful to maintain an attitude of humility
     in the Christian fellowship.

FAMILY THEME: FAMILY OF FAITH

1 Timothy 5:1-25

Church is meant to be more than a group of people who sing
songs together. A church is meant to be a family.

1.  Believers Deal With Church Family as We Would With
     Members of Our Own Family

     (1 Timothy 5:1-2)

As in a family, conflict will arise within a church and
     must be handled appropriately.

2.  Believers Take Care of Family and Church Family

     (1 Timothy 5:3-16)

The church provides special care for widows who
are without any means of family support.

3.  Believers Treat Church Leaders with Honor and Respect

     (1 Timothy 5:17-25)

Paul gave instructions to Timothy concerning
support and discipline of church leaders.

FAMILY THEME: MODELING FAITH

1 Timothy 4:16

Faith is meant to be lived out. In this chapter, Paul taught some
ways we do this.

1.  False Teaching is Very Dangerous

     (1 Timothy 4:1-5)

There is a real danger of individuals falling away into the
     deceitfulness of false doctrine.

2.  Good Servants of Christ Practice Disciplines That Lead
     to Godliness

     (1 Timothy 4:6-10)

We must give priority to activities that produce benefits
     for both time and eternity.

3.  Good Servants of Christ Model the Christian Life
     for Others

     (1 Timothy 4:11-16)

We glorify God when we live faithfully for Christ and
     exercise our gifts and abilities.

FAMILY THEME: SINCERE FAITH

1 Timothy 1:1 - 2:7

Spiritual warfare is a real and regular aspect of the life of a
disciple of Jesus. Being grounded in the faith is the best way
to defend it.

1.  Reject False Teachers and False Doctrine and Grow in
     Godly Love

     (1 Timothy 1:1-11)

False teaching and the speculation it breeds lead
people away from sincere faith in Jesus.

2.  By His Grace God Will Save Us and Use Us in Spite of
     Our Past Sins

     (1 Timothy 1:12-20)

Paul was an example of how God will redeem anyone
     who believes in Christ.

3.  The Spiritual Discipline of Prayer is a Distinguishing Mark
     of Sincere Faith

     (1 Timothy 2:1-7)

God's desire for all to be saved should lead us to pray
     for all to be saved.
