FAMILY THEME: SANCTIFICATION

IN WITH THE NEW

Hebrews 10:1-25

Christ's sacrifice changes the believer's daily life as well
as his or her eternal destiny.

1.  We are Made Holy by Christ's One Sacrifice

     (Hebrews 10:1-14)

Christ's once-for-all sacrifice accomplished what was
     impossible under the Law.

2.  Our New Covenant is Written on Our Hearts

     (Hebrews 10:15-18)

The Holy Spirit testified that Christ's sacrifice allowed
God to remove sin for good for those under the new
     covenant.

3.  Common Faith Build Uncommon Community

     (Hebrews 10:19-25)

The emphasis on meeting together should increase
     until the return of Christ.

FAMILY THEME: REDEMPTION

NECESSARY BLOODSHED

Hebrews 9:1-28

Jesus is the final sacrifice for sin.

1.  Religious Rituals Cannot Cleanse Man's Conscience

     (Hebrews 9:1-10)

The rituals the priests followed were painstakingly
carried out, but they were not enough to complete
     man's redemption.

2.  Christ's Blood Provides Man's Redemption

     (Hebrews 9:11-22)

The blood of the sacrifices was able to cleanse the
people outwardly, but it was incapable of washing
     them internally.

3.  Redemption's Price Was Paid Once for All

     (Hebrews 9:23-28)

Instead of offering a sacrifice repeatedly, Jesus
offered Himself once because His sacrifice was
     perfect and complete.

FAMILY THEME: NEW COVENANT

ONCE, FOR ALL

Hebrews 7:1-28

For centuries, the faith of the Israelites was built around the Law,
God's old testament or covenant. But, Jesus ushered in a new
covenant for believers.

1.  Jesus Has a Superior Priesthood

     (Hebrews 7:1-10)

True righteousness and lasting peace are only discovered in
a right relationship with Jesus Christ.

2.  Jesus Has a Better Covenant

     (Hebrews 7:11-22)

When the Law was given, it was soon apparent that it was
unable to permanently atone for sin. In fact, God never
     intended it to do so.

3.  Jesus is the Ultimate High Priest

     (Hebrews 7:23-28)

Jesus has conquered death and the grave so He is able to
     serve as Priest forever.

FAMILY THEME: SPIRITUAL MATURITY

SEE IT THROUGH

Hebrews 5:11 - 6:12

The author of Hebrews explains the importance of spiritual growth
in the context of those who turn from their faith and the assurance
we can have in God's promise of salvation.

1.  Believers are Called to Spiritual Maturity

     (Hebrews 5:11 - 6:3)

Believers should reach a point in their spiritual growth where
     they can teach othes.

2.  Believers Have Free Will, Even After Conversion

     (Hebrews 6:4-8)

A believer in Jesus Christ can make a willful decision to turn
away from Christ, no longer trusting Him for salvation.

3.  Believers Have a Full Assurance of Hope in Christ

     (Hebrews 6:9-12)

Despite his warning, the author was confident of better things
for his readers - things that belong to salvation.

FAMILY THEME: SON OF GOD

ABOVE US, YET WITH US

Hebrews 1:1-4;  2:5-18;  4:14-16

The author of Hebrews reminds us that Christ took on flesh to
suffer and die for our redemption and now serves as the High
Priest Who understands our humanity.

1.  Christ is God's Supreme Revelation

     (Hebrews 1:1-4)

God's final and complete revelation is seen in His Son.

2.  Christ is Our Suffering Savior

     (Hebrews 2:5-13)

Through His death, Christ did everything needed to become
the Leader or Founder of our salvation, and to open the door
     for all who repent.

3.  Christ is Our Compassionate High Priest

     (Hebrews 2:14-18;  4:14-16)

Christ willingly took on something that naturally was not His
in order to accomplish something that we naturally could
     not achieve.

FAMILY THEME: GOOD WORKS

DO GOOD BECAUSE HE IS GOOD

Titus 3:1-15

While good works are not the basis or means of our salvation,
they are a product of our salvation. Paul instructed Titus on the
importance of good works.

1.  Christians are Good Citizens and Good Neighbors

     (Titus 3:1-2)

Believers are to be ready to do good works at every
     opportunity.

2.  We Do Good for Others Because of What God Has Done for Us

     (Titus 3:3-8)

Jesus saved us and gave us His Spirit and new life.

3.  Good Works are About What We Do and What We Don't Do

     (Titus 3:9-15)

Believers should devote themselves to doing what is good
     and helpful, meeting people's needs.

FAMILY THEME: SOUND DOCTRINE

TRUTH YOU CAN LIVE BY

Titus 2:1-15

Doctrine refers to teaching. Something that is sound is
healthy. So "sound doctrine" is healthy or accurate
teaching. In his letter to the young pastor, Titus, the
apostle Paul was quite clear about the importance of
sound doctrine in the church.

1.  Sound Doctrine Guides Our Behavior

     (Titus 2:1-8)

Paul instructed Titus to teach men and women of
all ages to live in ways that conform to sound
     doctrine.

2.  Sound Doctrine Teaches Us Submission

     (Titus 2:9-10)

Even bondservants (slaves) who followed Christ
were to be subject to their masters.

3.  Sound Doctrine Keeps Our Focus on Christ and His Return

     (Titus 2:11-15)

Looking forward to Christ's return helps us reject sin.
