II Samuel 2:1-7; 5:1-10

David's ascension to the throne was a long and drawn-out

process. But God's providential hand could be seen every

step of the way. 

1.  God Directs the Steps of His People

     (II Samuel 2:1-7)

      It had been many years since Samuel first anointed

      David as Saul's successor, but the shepherd boy

      became king according to God's timetable.

 
2.  God Keeps His Promises

     (II Samuel 5:1-5) 

     God's promise to David finally came to pass.

 

3.  God Empowers His Chosen Servants

     (II Samuel 5:6-10)

     David established Jerusalem as his capital city.
