FAMILY THEME: SELFLESS LIVING

Romans 14:1  -  15:7

What happens when Christians disagree on certain issues? Do we
push for our way? Do we separate from one another? Or is there a
way to respect one another and continue to work together for the
Kingdom? Paul answers these questions in this lesson.

1.  Leave Judgment to God in Matters Not Clearly Spelled Out
     in Scripture

     (Romans 14:1-12)

Paul instructed both parties not to judge each other
for their differing opinions in such disputable matters.

2.  Walk in Love, Building Up Rather Than Hindering Others' Faith

     (Romans 14:13-23)

Paul challenged his readers to make every effort to
     build up one another spiritually.

3.  Follow Christ's Example of Pleasing Others Rather
     Than Ourselves

     (Romans 15:1-7)

Paul urged believers to please others, following Christ's
example of putting the need of others ahead of His own.

FAMILY THEME: SUBMISSIVE LIVING

Romans 13:1-14

What should the disciple's relationship be with the government?
Paul gives us some guidance in this week's study.

1.  Submit to Those in Authority

     (Romans 13:1-7)

Having Heavenly citizenship does not free us from
     earthly obligations and authority.

2.  Submit to the Law of Love

     (Romans 13:8-10)

The law of love is the primary law for the believer
     to submit to.

3.  Submit to Christ-Like Living

     (Romans 13:11-14)

Since we are living in the last days, we should be
focused on making the greatest impact possible.

FAMILY THEME: TRANSFORMED LIVING

Romans 12:1-21

Thinking about all Jesus has done for us should motivate us to live
for Him. But what does that look like? Romans 12 answers this
question.

1.  Respond to God's Mercy by Giving All to Him

     (Romans 12:1-2)

To make your life a living sacrifice is to make a conscious,
rational, thoughtful, and intelligent offering of one's self as
     an act of worship.

2.  Use the Gifts God Has Given You

     (Romans 12:3-8)

As disciples we are part of the church and are called to
serve God and the others who make up His body.

3.  Act Lovingly Toward All People

     (Romans 12:9-21)

The transformation of the gospel is seen in the way we
     treat people.

FAMILY THEME: LIVING IN THE SPIRIT

Romans 8:1-39

Romans 8 has been called "The Greatest Chapter". In Romans 8 Paul
laid out some tremendous gospel truths that should strengthen our
souls and encourage our spirits.

1.  In Christ We Are Free From the Condemnation of Our Sin

     (Romans 8:1-11)

Condemnation can come in the form of guilt, shame, and
punishment, but this no longer applies to the person who
     has been redeemed.

2.  In Christ We Are Free to Live as Children of God

     (Romans 8:12-17)

Our position in Christ as adopted children provides us
with an intimate and fulfilling relationship with our
Heavenly Father in which we can call out to God at
     any time.

3.  In Christ We Are Free from Hopelessness

     (Romans 8:18-30)

Despite living in a world filled with hardships, suffering,
and weakness, believers still live hope-filled lives.

4.  In Christ We Are Free from Insecurity

     (Romans 8:31-39)

Regardless of what people think, say, or do, our judge
     and justifier is Christ alone.

FAMILY THEME: WISDOM IN DAILY LIVING

Proverbs 10:4-5 ; 21:23 ; 23:4-5 ; 14:29

Applying God's wisdom to your life is the key to a successful life
and successful relationships.

1.  The Wise Have a Strong Work Ethic

     (Proverbs 10:4-5)

Hard work produces not only provision or riches, but also a
     sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.

2.  The Wise Guard Their Words

     (Proverbs 21:23)

When we choose our words wisely, we are able to bring
good things like peace, healing, grace, and encouragement.

3.  The Wise Handle Money Generously and Carefully

     (Proverbs 23:4-5)

Money and riches do not last; so don't make gaining
wealth a priority in your life.

4.  The Wise Keep Their Temper Under Control

     (Proverbs 14:29)

Out-of-control emotions can lead to devastating effects.

FAMILY THEME: WISE MEN SEEK HIM

Matthew 1:18 - 2:12

God's leading in our lives and in the lives of others who believe in Him
is quite miraculous! If we follow His lead, we may see incredible out-
comes.

1.  Wise People Are Open to God's Leading

     (Matthew 1:18-21 ; 2:1-2 ; 12)

God's children have a choice to make: follow our own path
and will, or follow what God has prepared for us.

2.  Wise People Follow God's Leading

     (Matthew 1:22-25 ; 2:1-2 ; 12)

Understanding and knowing God's will for our lives should
change the priorities and focus in all that we do.

3.  Wise People Worship the Savior Who Came to
     Live and Die for Us

     (Matthew 2:1-11)

Even as a newborn, before He had done any good deeds
or miracles, Jesus was worthy of worship.

FAMILY THEME: WISDOM IN RIGHTEOUS LIVING

Proverbs 23:24-25  ;  19:1  ;  29:23  ;  5:1-8

Wisdom is not a somewhere-out-there concept.
Biblical wisdom has everyday application. It
makes a difference in our homes, our attitudes,
our businesses, and even our sex lives.

1.  Righteous Living Starts at Home

     (Proverbs 23:24-25)

The Church and the home are united in
     teaching us about God.

2.  Righteous Living Includes Honesty
     and Integrity

     (Proverbs 19:1)

As Christians, we should live consistently
righteous lives both publicly and privately.

3.  Righteous Living Includes Humility

     (Proverbs 29:33)

God gives grace to those who are humble
     before Him.

4.  Righteous Living Includes Sexual
     Purity

     (Proverbs 5:1-8)

God calls all Christians to avoid
     sexual immorality.
