FAMILY THEME: SIN ENTERED THE WORLD

Genesis 3:1-13

If you have ever looked at the world and thought, "Wow, what
a mess!", you've also likely wondered why the world is in the
shape it's in. God, in His goodness, has given us the answer
to this question in Genesis 3.

1.  Sin Started With Temptation

     (Genesis 3:1-6a)

The act of sin begins with the temptation to sin.

2.  Sin is Caused by a Choice and Brings Guilt

     (Genesis 3:6-7)

Eve gave in to temptation when she chose to reach out and
take some of the forbidden fruit.

3.  Sin Damages Relationships and Spawns More Sin

     (Genesis 3:8-13)

Adam and Eve's sin damaged their relationship with God.

FAMILY THEME: CREATION OF MAN AND WOMAN

Genesis 2:4-25

Humans are a special creation of God, made in His image to
fulfill His purposes. This gives our lives value and significance.

1.  We Are Her Because God Made Us

     (Genesis 2:4-7)

Our being, our breath, and our very life come from God.

2.  God Has a Job for Us to Do

     (Genesis 2:8-17)

It's important to understand what work is God's design and
is not a part of the fall.

3.  We Are Here to Have Meaningful and Lasting Relationships

     (Genesis 2:18-25)

The marriage relationship goes deeper than a friendship or
a kinship. It is an intimacy where there is a melding of
     personalities and purpose.

FAMILY THEME: GOD CREATED THE WORLD

Genesis 1:1 - 2:3

Where did we come from? Written by Moses, the book
of Genesis answers this critical question.

1.  God is the Master Designer and Creator of our World

     (Genesis 1:1-25)

The very first page of the Old Testament introduces
us to God and reveals His power.

2.  Human Design has a Heavenly Pattern

     (Genesis 1:26-30)

Humans are made in God's image, an expression
used of no other part of the creation.

3.  Our God is Very Good

     (Genesis 1:31 - 2:3)

We have an almighty God who has formed a majestic
creation and designed us to be like Him in character
     and purpose.

FAMILY THEME: TRUTH

THE TRUTH STANDS TALL

Jude

Jude instructs us on contending for the faith, knowing
that God is faithful to uphold us in our walk with Him
and to judge the ungodly.

1.  God's Truth Can Keep Grace From Becoming a
     Licens for Sin

     (Jude 1-4)

Jude called his readers to defend their faith
against the attacks of false teachers.

2.  God Will Judge the Ungodly

     (Jude 5-16)

Jude compared false teachers to the notoriously
faithless people of the Old Testament.

3.  God is Able to Keep Us From Falling

     (Jude 17-25)

God is able to keep us from stumbling and
     can present us blameless.

FAMILY THEME: DILIGENCE

UNTIL HE COMES

2 Peter 3:1-18

Peter teaches about the return of Christ, warning that
scoffers will mistakenly point to God's patience as
proof that He does not exist.

1.  Scoffers Will Come

     (2 Peter 3:1-7)

People always have and always will
scoff at the truth of God's Word.

2.  Judgment Will Fall...Eventually

     (2 Peter 3:8-10)

God is patient before bringing judgment
because He loves us so much.

3.  Believers Can Grow in Faith While Waiting Expectantly

     (2 Peter 13:11-18)

We are to make diligent efforts to live holy
and godly lives in anticipation of Christ's return.

He gives us everyting we need for life and godliness.

2.  God's Power and Promises Enable Us to Grow in Godly Character

     (2 Peter 1:5-11)

God is the source of our godliness, but we still make the
     effort to grow in godliness.

3.  We Have a Sure and Certain Word from God

     (2 Peter 1:12-21)

FAMILY THEME: CHRISTLIKENESS

NO FIRE, NO GOLD

1 Peter 4:1-19

Peter made it simple: Believers are to follow Christ's example.

1.  Christlikeness is Valuing the Will of God Above All Else

     (1 Peter 4:1-6)

Those who are willing to suffer for Christ are committed
to do the will of God whatever that may involve.

2.  Christlikeness is Loving and Serving Each Other

     (1 Peter 4:7-11)

Spiritual gifts are meant to build up the church in love
     and encouragement.

3.  Christlikeness is Suffering Like Jesus

     (1 Peter 4:12-19)

If we suffer for doing what is good we can rejoice that
     we are like Christ.
