FAMILY THEME: GRACE-BASED RELATIONSHIPS

Romans 14:1-23

The salvation that comes through faith in Jesus revolutionizes our
relationships with others.

1.  Accept and Live in Harmony with Others No Matter Where They are
     on Their Journey of Faith

     (Romans 14:1-4)

We are to accept others even when they disagree with us over
     secondary issues.

2.  We Are Part of an Interdependent Community Under the Lordship
     of Christ

     (Romans 14:5-9)

Living under the Lordship of Christ allows for a graceful
     acceptance of differences.

3.  We are to Focus on Our Own Relationship with God and Leave
     Leave Judgment to Him

     (Romans 14:10-12)

We must remember that God is the judge, not us.

4.  Be Careful Not to Harm Others as You Live in Freedom and Grace

     (Romans 14:13-23)

It is wrong to exercise your liberty in a way that causes another
     Christian to sin.

FAMILY THEME: FREEDOM FROM GUILT

Psalm 103:1-14

This psalm explains why believers should be eager to worship the Lord.

1.  Forgiveness Leads to Joy and Worship

     (Psalm 103:1-5;  Nehemiah 8:9-12)

The forgiveness that God offers is meant to replace the pain of our
fallen state with the satisfaction of a renewed state of being.

2.  Forgiveness is Based on God's Character, Not Ours

     (Psalm 103:6-10;  Exodus 34:1-10)

All God does flows from His unchanging character. Forgiveness is
about Who God is, not who we are.

3.  God Forgives Us in Spite of Our Weakness

     (Psalm 103:11-14;  Romans 5:6-11;  Hebrews 4:14-16)

As a parent's concern for his child transcends that child's behavior,
so does our Lord's care for us go beyond our actions.

FAMILY THEME: SAVED BY GRACE

Ephesians 2:1-10

Scripture is clear that we are saved by grace alone, through faith alone,
in Christ alone.

1.  Our Salvation is Based on Who God Is, Not on What We Have Done

     (Ephesians 2:1-5;  Romans 3:21-26;  5:15-21;  11:5-6)

God demonstrates overwhelming mercy, love, and grace when He
     saves us.

2.  We Are Saved to Bring God Glory

     (Ephesians 2:6-8; Philippians 2:3-13; Colossians 1:15-20)

Our efforts do not make us more praiseworthy than others, but
     demonstrate His power and praiseworthiness.

3.  We Are Saved to Do Good Works That Draw People to God

     (Ephesians 2:8-10; 2 Corinthians 4:1-6;  5:16-21)

Salvation from Jesus produces service to Jesus.

FAMILY THEME: A COVERING FOR SIN

Numbers 15:1-31

God did not abandon His people. He gave them hope for the future and a
covering for sin.

1.  God Reassures His People and Demonstrates the Cost of Right
     Relationship with Him

     (Numbers 15:1-16)

God gave instructions regarding sacrifices and offerings, pointing
to what Christ would do on the cross.

2.  We Acknowledge God's Provision by Giving Back to Him

     (Numbers 15:17-21)

God instructed the Israelites to give Him a portion of their harvest,
highlighting a promise of future propsperity in the promised land.

3.  There Must Be a Sacrifice for Sin

     (Numbers 15:22-31)

God provided the list of sacrifices needed to cover the people's sins.

FAMILY THEME: CONSEQUENCES OF REBELLION

Numbers 14:1-38

While God is faithful to forgive, rebellion will still have consequences.

1.  Unbelief Leads to Rebellion

     (Numbers 14:1-10a)

After receiving the spies' report, the people began to doubt God's
     provision and protection.

2.  God Responds to Rebellion With Both Love and Holiness

     (Numbers 14:10b-20)

God was greatly displeased with the people's disbelief and
rebellion, but chose not to destroy them.

3.  Sin and Rebellion, Even When Forgiven, Still Leads to Consequences

     (Numbers 14:21-38)

God forgave the people, but still allowed the natural consequences
of their rebellion to take effect.

FAMILY THEME: THE GLORY OF GOD'S PRESENCE

Exodus 40:1-38

God instructed His people on how to build a dwelling for
His presence among them.

1.  Prepare for God's Presence

     (Exodus 40:1-16)

God gave Moses specific instructions for the priests
     and furnishing of the tabernacle.

2.  Obey God's Word to Enjoy His Presence

     (Exodus 40:17-33)

Moses followed God's instructions for building until
     the task was completed.

3.  Experience the Glory of God's Presence

     (Exodus 40:34-38)

Once finished according to His direction, the
tabernacle became the dwelling place for
     God's glory.

FAMILY THEME: THE SNARE OF IDOLATRY

Exodus 32:1-35

The Israelites turned from God to worship idols.

1.  Idols Lead Us Away From God

     (Exodus 32:1-6)

In the absence of their leader, the people petitioned
Aaron to craft for them an object of worship.

2.  Idols Damage Our Relationship With God

     (Exodus 32:7-14)

God was clearly displeased with His people's
succumbing to the temptation of idolatry.

3.  The Idol Must Be Destroyed

     (Exodus 32:15-35)

In order for the relationship to be restored, the
     idol must be completely destroyed.
