FAMILY THEME: DEPRAVITY

A DOWNWARD SPIRAL 

Romans 1:16-32
Paul had never been to Rome, so he wrote a lengthy
letter - his longest in Scripture - to help Roman
believers understand the gospel. He began by showing
how man's rejection of God leads deeper into depravity. 

1.  The Gospel of God is Depravity's Only Hope

     (Romans 1:16-17)

     Only the Gospel has the power to change a person's

     heart.

 
2.  A Denial of God is Depravity's Inevitable Fruit

     (Romans 1:18-23) 

     God's righteousness can be refused and ignored,

     but it cannot be avoided.

 
3.  Abandonment by God is Depravity's Ultimate End

     (Romans 1:24-32)

     God abandoned people to the corruption of their

     own choices. Freedom carries responsibility.

FAMILY THEME: SPIRITUAL WARFARE

THE ENEMY IS... 

Acts 19:1-41
Sharing the gospel is spiritual warfare. Satan hates
the gospel and he will stir up opposition to it, everywhere
he can. This was never more obvious than when Paul took
the gospel to Ephesus.

1.  We Battle Against Ignorance About God

     (Acts 19:1-7)

    These Ephesians' knowledge of God's truth contained

     important gaps.

 
2.  We Battle Against Spiritual and Physical Evil

     (Acts 19:8-22) 

     Spiritual opposition can take many forms.

 
3.  We Battle Against Volatile Enemies

     (Acts 19:23-41)

     What began as a meeting of trademen and craftsmen

     soon turned into a riot.

From our Party Planner:

Dec 15th, there is no PM service so that the classes can have a Christmas fellowship. I am encouraging you to come out (to the new Event Center/old sanctuary) for a pot luck dinner. We will eat and then get in groups for some caroling to shut ins and elderly. Do you know anyone who needs a "pick-me-up"? This will not work unless we have some good participation! Bring your kids, a dish and a home made loaf of bread, muffins, cookies, etc. to leave with the "Carol-ed". 6 pm.

We will not do an exchange of gifts but I want to ask EVERYONE to bring some hats, gloves, scarves or blankets for the homeless through Mission Tulsa. Can you even imagine being homeless in this weather?  We are blessed and need to show compassion to the less fortunate. the Dollar Tree and Dollar stores carry a selection of things.

FAMILY THEME: DISOBEDIENCE

THE DANGER OF DISOBEDIENCE 

I Kings 10:26 - 11:43
Although God had granted great wisdom to Solomon,
the king still broke every rule God had given for kings.
His disobedience had serious consequences. 

1.  Persistent Disobedience Angers the Lord

     (I Kings 10:26 - 11:13)

     Disobedience always angers the Lord.

 
2.  Persistent Disobedience Opposes God

     (I Kings 11:14-25) 

     Solomon's disobedience brought terrible con-

     sequences upon the king and his nation.

 
3.  Persistent Disobedience Leaves a Sad Legacy

     (I Kings 11:26-43)

     Solomon was immersed in spiritual and physical 

     adultery.

FAMILY THEME: WORSHIP

WORSHIP ESSENTIALS 

I Kings 6:1-14  ;  8:1-66
Solomon's first major task as king was the construction
of the temple in Jerusalem. It was Israel's first permanent
place of worship. 

1.  Worship Requires Obedience

     (I Kings 6:1-14)

     Solomon learned that we cannot expect God's 

     presence if we ignore His precepts.

 
2.  Worship is About God's Glory; Not Our Works

     (I Kings 8:1-29) 

     God is always the object and focus of our worship.

 
3.  Our Worship is Based on God's Forgiveness

     (I Kings 8:30-53)

     Apart from forgiveness, we have no right or ability

     to worship God.

4.  Worship Calls for Our Response

     (I Kings 8:54-61)

     "Seeing" God in worship should motivate us to

     respond to Him.

FAMILY THEME: WISDOM

WISDOM WHEN WE NEED IT MOST 

I Kings 3:3-28
When David died, his son Solomon became Israel's
king. It was the beginning of Israel's most prosperous
period. 

1.  Wisdom Begins With Humility

     (I Kings 3:3-9)

     Even before God gave him great wisdom, Solomon

     was smart enough to "know what he didn't know".

 
2.  God Gives Wisdom and So Much More

     (I Kings 3:10-15) 

     God gave Solomon what he asked for and all the

     things he didn't ask for.

 
3.  Wisdom is Proven Through Practical Decisions in

     Real Life

     (I Kings 3:16-28)

     Solomon's wisdom was quickly put to the test. He

     passed with flying colors.

FAMILY THEME: REPENTANCE

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES 

II Samuel 11:1 - 12:24
In the spiritually darkest days of his life, David learned
that even kings suffer the consequences of their actions. 

1.  Bad Decisions Lead to Big Disasters

     (II Samuel 11:6-27)

     David stayed home at the time when kings usually

     went to war.

 
2.  Cover Ups are Costly

     (II Samuel 11:6-27) 

     With his reputation on the line, David attempted to

     cover up his sin.

 
3.  Repentance is Our Only Hope

     (II Samuel 12:1-13)

     When Nathan confronted David with his sin, the

     king responded with repentance.

4.  Choices Have Consequences

     (II Samuel 12:14-24)

     Although God accepted David's repentance and

     forgave his sin, the king still had to reap what he

     had sown.
